Marty is a prominent character in the Sydney music scene, a musical jack of all trades. His immersion in the music industry ranges from radio presenter at community radio station FBi, artist rep, DJ, record collector and organiser of At First Sight, a record fair and all day show held at Carriageworks. Marty grew up surrounded by his musician father’s incredible record collection, and as a teenager worked in record stores, and did the weekly rounds of his favourite shops to scope out the records he’d next add to his collection.
This would eventually lead the way for his role as presenter on FBi radio with his program Dusty Fingers, where his expansive and eclectic music interests are given free rein. Community radio in Sydney has been the launching pad for incredible artists, and presenters like Marty have played an integral in keeping the Sydney music scene’s blood pumping. Music is important to Marty because as he says, it’s, “ The one art form that actually fills space, it’s not like you’re looking at a painting and it’s static or a film and it’s on the screen. It actually fills the room and I think that’s pretty powerful.”
