Pat Meyer

Guitar Tech

“Music is a way of life. I think we all do it because we love it and we want to be around it.”

For Pat Meyer, there’s no real switching off from his work at the end of a 9-5 day. His life on the road as a guitar tech with artists such as The Avalanches and Peter Garrett first began when he’d left school. He drove around the country, touring in a van with his friend’s band and quickly realised that he might just be able to make a career out of this travelling thing. With equal parts hard work and love for music, Pat started his life on the road, a life filled with ridiculous stories, good people and great music.

It takes a certain kind of person to be a roadie, and Pat’s one such person. Being paid to travel and meet interesting people are the perks of the job that Pat most loves, which helps to make up for the lack of sleep and constantly forgetting peoples’ names. Without Pat, it’d be impossible for the show to go on, as he’s responsible for the set-up of guitars, amps, changing strings—you name it, he does it. So, if the man constantly surrounded by music could have one soundtrack that symbolised him, what would it be? “Paul Kelly’s Dumb Things.”
